Indications:

Avodart is used in the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate. Avodart helps improve symptoms, reduce the risk of acute urinary retention and reduce the risk of surgery for BPH related conditions.

How to take:

Do not crush or chew capsules. It must be swallowed whole as it may cause irritation of the oropharyngeal mucosa. Avodart can be taken with or without food. Usual adult dose is 1 capsule (0.5 mg) taken once daily. Do not take more Avodart than is indicated at the label without consulting a doctor. Continue to take this medicine even if you feel well, do not stop taking without talking to the doctor.

Precautions:

Avodart should not be used by nursing women. It is not known whether dutasteride is excreted in human milk. Avodart is contraindicated for use in pediatric patients. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
